Last Supper Before the War. Zine from Ukraine
last supper before the war is a zine created for the exhibition War, what is it good for, absolutely nothing... at Galerie Laroche/Joncas (Montreal, Canada), at the invitation of artist Craig Leonard.
When Craig approached ist publishing at the end of April to tell about the war, we discussed different ways of telling the story that would be timely, open to an international readership, and sufficiently accurate in detail. Thus, the unifying plot of the zine was the mention of a meeting: on the night of February 20 to 21, Lisa Biletska invited friends to the first pre-war dinner, which also turned out to be the last. After February 24, communication moved to messengers, and works and texts became available through posts on social networks.
In fact, the zine collected the selected posts and publications of the authors in the same way that they themselves gathered around the table - Asya Bazdyreva, Liza Biletska, Katya Buchashka, Katya Libkind, Philip Olenyk, Stanislav Turina and Boris Filonenko (as the editor of the zine).
The texts and works of art talk about the ongoing experiences of the first months of the war, the search for a language in which these experiences can be expressed (from archival works and remedial works to a theoretical article on the double colonization of Ukraine-as-a-territory), about new modes of vision and ways of talking about civilian life inside the war
