Luk Magazine: The Fifth Line
For the magazine, the authors have created their own subway line, where each station is dedicated to the people and phenomena shaping contemporary Kharkiv. These include the military (the “Defenders of Ukraine” station) and volunteers (the “Volunteer” station), as well as the cultural community (stations like “Theatrical” and “Musical”). The line also reflects values and phenomena essential to today’s society, such as the “Memory,” “Dignity,” and “Love” stations.
At each station, readers are invited to reflect on different aspects of social life:
- The formation of rituals for mourning and commemorating those who have died in the Russo-Ukrainian War;
- The challenges of sustaining culture under the extreme conditions of wartime;
- The rethinking of modern history to understand how we’ve reached our current point and to draw on the best of our collective experience for building the future we strive for and consciously choose.
The magazine spans 128 pages.
