In the way
"In the way" (1957) is, without exaggeration, the main novel of the "broken generation", which instantly became a legend, caused a flurry of controversial reviews and determined the further development of American literature. It is in this work that the famous "spontaneous" style of Jack Kerouac, inspired by the rhythms and sound of bebop, takes place. "In the way" reflected the worldview of an entire generation, became a cult text of the counterculture, and soon became an internationally recognized classic. The endless road, hitchhiking and buses, crossing the continent from one end to the other, late-night conversations until dawn, poetry, sex, substances and, of course, unbridled jazz. Exploring the limits of personal freedom and the American dream. The adventure-filled journey of two friends: the aspiring writer Sal Paradise and the young con artist and old woman Dean Moriarty. Thanks to this text, the image of the eternally young and crazy "beatnik king" was born, a seductive and deceptive image, in which Jack Kerouac was forever imprinted in the imagination of readers, which brought him a heavy burden of fame and which he has not gotten rid of to this day.
