In 1983, the company "Citroën" commissioned Mœbius to write a story for advertising its car. In it, two genderless protagonists, Stel and Atan, after a shipwreck end up on a desert planet and are forced to cross it in an old Citroen. On their way, they cross paths with an interstellar refugee camp surrounding a mysterious pyramid and are transported to an unknown world described as "the Garden of Eden somewhere in another galaxy."

The open ending of this story inspired Mœbius for an independent continuation. He developed plots for three or four volumes of stories that take place in a single author's universe, and one of them intersects with other significant works of Mœbius, such as The Hermetic Garage. Inspired by the philosophy of Jean-Paul Appel-Guery, the Swiss nutritionist Guy-Claude Bourget and his own mobile lifestyle (the cycle was painted in Tokyo, Los Angeles and France), Mœbius explores the questions of dreams, nutrition and health, biology and sexuality, human desire living in a structured society and archetypal good and evil. All these philosophical elements are embedded in seemingly easy stories.

Mœbius begins the cycle restraining himself with the Ligne Claire style of "pure lines" with a minimum of detail, but later reverts to his signature signature style. Although Mœbius won many international awards for his work, this cycle received one special one — the 1991 Spanish Haxtur Award of the Salón Internacional del Cómic del Principado de Asturias. Also, the story "The Still Planet", which made up half of the collection Concrete Celebrates Earth Day 1990 (52 pages, Dark Horse Comics, April 1990), won the 1991 Eisner Award for Best Single. It is noteworthy that another Eisner was won by the complete American edition of Eden's World in 1997 for the best translated edition.
